J. W. Deenick “The Australian Concise Oxford Dictionary defines a postil as a “marginal note or comment on a text of Scripture.” The word reflects well what the series of notes in this book are meant to be about. They do not offer models or outlines for sermons. They are no more than “notes in the margin” to a selection of Scripture passages. My hope is that my readers will find them useful, especially those who have been called and ordained to the ministry of the Word, the holy sacraments, and prayer. They will still have to do their own textual research, write their own outline and sermon, but they may find these postils helpful in getting started”. From the Preface |
